Hi everyone. Janelle Ryan here from Sky High Coaching and if this is the first time I've spoken to you and you have no idea who I am, I am a Change Catalyst and I help rockstars, just like you, get out of their own way align their goals with their actions and start to create and live the life they truly love and truly deserve.
This is video 4 of my 5 part video series where I tell you the top five mistakes we all maybe making when we’re trying to grasp a seemingly unattainable goal or we’re trying to make a change to do, be or have something better in our lives and it's just not working.
So the fourth mistake you may be making is you're putting all your energy on a dream and it's not really a goal. So what do I mean by that? We love to make grand sweeping statements. We love to say things like “I'm going to be a CEO before I'm 30”.... “I'm going to be a millionaire before I'm 40”... “I'm going to be a world class wrestler or weightlifter”. And what happens? They are just sweeping statements and they sit over here without any substance or plan behind them and they become too large and too overwhelming we get paralysis by analysis and we don't do anything. So they just stay over here as a dream.
How do we fix that? Well we turn that dream into a smart goal. So what is a smart goal? A smart goal is an acronym for the following.
S is for specific. Is your goal specific? What when why how? You need to break all that down.
Is it measurable? How are you going to measure the movement towards your goal so that you know you're moving in the right direction?
A is for attainable. Is this something you're willing to work towards and you have the capacity to work towards? Or are there some new skills or training that you have to undergo?
R is for, is it realistic? So if I had a goal to go to the moon um within the next 2 weeks it's probably not a very realistic goal is it? We need to make sure that it's realistic.
T is for timely. You really should have a time frame on when you're going to achieve this goal because without a time frame there's no sense of urgency - there's no push for your motivation to move forward and it might just be sitting over there as an elusive dream.
